Andre Balazs' Locust on Hudson

Locust On Hudson is 76 acres of rolling hills and lush gardens. I attended an event there last year and have been dreaming of the next one. Secretly, I envisioned it being the perfect location for the Chelsea Clinton wedding, waiting with baited breath for the announcement that never came.

The first owner of the property, Henry Brockholst Livingston, originated from a powerful kinship of Hudson River Valley social influence that included the Beekmans, Astors, Roosevelts, and others. Livingston was appointed by Thomas Jefferson to the United States Supreme Court and was widely respected for his judicial opinions. Livingston named the property "The Locusts" in 1797, for the black locust trees planted there.

Locust, is owned by Andre Balaz and is very different personality from his more well know 'hot spots'. (Chateau Marmont, The Standard Hotel, The Mercer Hotel. Guest rooms are as well appointed. There are incredible trails to discover, a beach, swimming pool, horseback riding and vast outdoor activities to explore. I imagine there must be as much to do in Autumn as Spring/Summer.

Andre Balaz always gets it right! Locust is gorgeous! With a family, home feel. You have the impression of visiting a well heeled relative that makes you feel at home and very much part of the family, though you don't see them often.

The drive is a tad more than 2 hours from NYC. Less from Westchester and outer regions. Find a reason to get there, even if just for a day trip.
