A happy summer

Summer to me signifies relaxation and fun. Needless to say my sporadic posts since the prelude of summer. I intend to invest more on quality family time, on the beauty of a short New York summer and on a few family trips, instead of investing my spare time on searching and putting together blog posts. I apologize if this is of any inconvenience to my regular readers. Please expect posts just not as regular. All the best, Julie

A Perfect beach house

When I think of a long weekend the first thing that comes to my mind is a comfy beach house where to escape. Since we can't go anywhere this weekend I can only dream of being in this gorgeous house designed by Tom Scheerer that has enchanted me since the first time I laid my eyes on it.

I love how the beauty of this house slowly reveals itself. As I keep looking at it I can notice the different colors and textures that at first are barely discernible due to the calmness in the colors. I also love how the playful patterns on the fabrics and wallpapers and the comfortable furniture make this house perfect for a family vacation home with a great degree of sophistication. As this house proves, a beach house doesn't have to lack grandeur.

Have a happy 4th of July weekend!!!

Ochre Owner's Abode

I loved the house of Harriet Maxwell Macdonald and Andrew Corrie, the creative talents behind Ochre, in this month's issue of House Beautiful. The house is located on Shelter Island. Usually you would expect that a house where wood covers every single surface to be a little rough but the use of the soft hues throughout the house gives it a very cozy feeling. I'm not a big fan of Pine but the white wash technique the owners used on the paneling make me think twice.

There is only one thing I would add to this gorgeous house, a few light shaded rugs.

The weather this weekend is expected to be fabulous. Finally good weather is coming our way. Happy Easter!

An unconventional beach house

Kelly Wearstler did it again. This time in a non-predictable beach house she designed for her family. "Ain't no boats sailing in this house" Every item and piece is a sculpture of its own. Many of them custom designed by Wearstler. I know this is not a house that it would be appealing to many people. Maybe because of being afraid of it's new and surprising design. That's exactly the reason I like it. I love it when designers proof that not everything is done and not everything is made equal in design.

I absolutely love the inter lacking design of this sculptural staircase. Clever, the way Wearstler made of an often useless space into something stunning. Would you guess this is bleached-walnut?

Simply beautiful

When I have a beach house I definitely one a bed like this in the porch. I can imagine myself playing with my kids and my hubby in this space.
